What if I’m asked to vote using a provisional ballot?

If there’s a question about your eligibility to vote in your precinct, you may be asked to fill out what’s called a provisional ballot. These ballots are used if your name isn’t listed in the poll book of voters, if you don’t have an ID, if you request an absentee ballot and then decide to vote in person, if poll workers workers believe your signature doesn’t match the one on file or if your name or address changed without updating it with the election’s board. The provisional ballots are set aside and counted after eligibility is confirmed. Voters who cast a provisional ballot can call (866-644-6868) after the election to find out whether or not their vote counted.
