Greater Clevelanders have experienced about a half dozen large scale power outages(and many smaller ones) so far this year. Often the outages come on the heels of extreme weather such as freezing temperature, high wind or extreme heat. Frustration is running high, especially for residents who have had multiple or prolonged outages. Signal Cleveland has seen questions about these outages. Are they more frequent? Is the cause the crazier weather or aging infrastructure or both? Cleveland is also served by two companies, Cleveland Public Power, a municipal electric provider run by the city and First Energy, a utility regulated by a state commission. Both have has frequent and sometimes prolonged outages in recent months, the most recent this July 4th weekend, which included dangerously high temperatures.

Signal Cleveland would like to answer you questions about the state of our electrical services—the big ones and the small ones. Drop your questions below.
