Dozens of pro-Palestinian demonstrators assembled Monday morning in front of the Kelvin Smith Library at Case Western Reserve University to protest the war in Gaza and show support for Palenstine.

Signal Cleveland’s Amy Morona captured multiple videos of the scene, which you can watch below. Campus police immediately removed demonstrators from tents. The police detained about 20 people, who could be seen seated on the grass, their hands in restraints.

Organizers of the demonstration issued a news release just as their actions began. It says students want, among other demands, the private university to divest any financial interests in Israel and restore the rights of the campus chapter of Student for Justice in Palestine. CWRU suspended the SJP chapter earlier this year for posting flyers in restricted areas.

Higher Education Reporter (she/her)
I look at who is getting to and through Cleveland’s three biggest colleges, along with what challenges and supports they encounter along the way. How that happens -- and how universities wield their power during that process -- impacts all of the city’s residents as well as our collective future. I am a first-generation college graduate reporting for Signal Cleveland in partnership with the national nonprofit news organization Open Campus.
