The Cleveland Metropolitan School District will open a four-day window next week for parents or guardians to switch their students to a different district school. The transfer window opens on Sept. 8 and closes at 5 p.m. Sept. 11.
To change their child’s school, parents or guardians have a few options:
- They can make the request in person at their current school.
- They can visit the CMSD website, where a link with information to fill out will be posted once the window opens.
- Or they can visit the district’s enrollment offices at 1111 Superior Ave. E. in downtown Cleveland or at Natividad Pagan International Newcomers Academy at 3145 W. 46th St. in Cleveland.
Families will get an email with the outcome of their request, but the district does not have a set timeline for those responses.
Requesting a transfer does not guarantee students will be able to switch schools — not all schools and grade levels have open spots. For this reason, it’s important that students continue attending their current school while they wait to hear back, said Darrielle Snipes, a spokesperson for the district.
If families need to switch schools outside of the upcoming transfer window — for example, if they move halfway through the year — they should contact the principal of their current school and the enrollment office at 216-838-0000 to go over their options.
