This weekend marks the unofficial start of summer โ€“ and Cleveland is ready. Bruce Springsteen performs at Huntington Bank Field, the annual Greek Fest kicks off in Tremont, and Reggae Fest jams downtown. Add in the Cavs Fan Fest at Rocket Arena and our city will be jumping.ย 

Memorial Day is the federal holiday honoring members of the U.S. military who died in service. Government offices, such as Cleveland City Hall, are closed Monday. 

Here are some parades and services happening around town.ย 

Bedford 

  • When: Monday, May 25, 10:15 a.m.
  • Where: Starts at Bedford City Hall, 165 Center Road, and proceeds to the Bedford Commons for a flag raising and ceremony
  • Details: The Bedford Memorial Day Parade travels from City Hall down Broadway to the Bedford Cemetery with a service featuring speaker Greg White, a Vietnam veteran and former U.S. Attorney for Northern Ohio. Service members will be recognized. All veterans are encouraged to walk in the parade.

Brooklyn 

  • When: Monday, May 25, starting at 11 a.m. 
  • Where: Parade kicks off from the recreation center, 7600 Memphis Ave. 
  • Details: The parade heads east on Memphis and ends at the stadium, 4500 Hurricane Alley, where a ceremony will take place at noon.  

Cleveland Heights 

  • When: Monday, May 25, 10:30 a.m. 
  • Where: Cumberland Park Veterans Memorial, Cumberland Park, 1740 Cumberland Road
  • Details: The annual ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in Cumberland Park recognizes  veterans and special guests. 

Euclid 

  • When: Monday, May 25, 10 a.m. 
  • Where: East 222nd Street from Shore Cultural Centre to the Euclid Public Library
  • Details: The theme of this yearโ€™s parade is “Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future.โ€ Veterans, community groups, sports teams, clubs and businesses walk in the parade with floats of all sizes. 

Lakewood 

  • When: Saturday, May 23, 8:30 a.m. 
  • Where: Lakewood Park Cemetery, 22025 Detroit Road, Rocky River
  • Details: The Joint Veterans Council of Lakewood and Rocky River and other volunteers place more than 4,000 American flags on the graves of veterans who have been laid to rest at the cemetery. A ceremony will follow. 

Shaker Heights 

  • When: Monday, May 25, starting at 9 a.m.
  • Where: Starting at Lee Road and Van Aken Boulevard, heading east to the Van Aken District
  • Details: The ceremony features speakers and local musicians with a parade following.

University Heights 

  • When: Monday, May 25, 11 a.m. 
  • What: Parade steps off on Silsby Road, between Ashurst and Canterbury roads, and proceeds to Gearity School
  • Details: The city boasts that its annual Memorial Day Parade is the longest running on the East Side, happening annually since 1966 (with the exception of 2020). Ceremony follows the parade.

Warrensville Heights 

  • When:  Monday, May 25, 10 a.m.
  • What: Parade travels on Warrensville Center Road near Wickfield Avenue.  
  • Details: A school bus will transport people from the Warrensville Heights High School parking lot to the front of the parade near Wickfield.

Westlake

  • When: Monday, May 25, 10 a.m.
  • What: Parade leaves from Sts. Peter & George Coptic Orthodox Church, 25800 Hilliard Blvd., and ends at Clague Park.
  • Details: Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, the parade features floats, marching bands and community groups.
