For 50 years, Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) has been offering classes to senior citizens with no homework or tests required.
The Encore 55+ program has over 150 course offerings this fall across several of the college’s campuses.
Some of the most popular classes include Beginning Line Dancing, Fun with Fitness, Fun with Italian, and Artificial Intelligence, according to Tyra Tate, program coordinator for Encore Community Education.
“People are curious about technological advances and want to stay up-to-date on ways technology may impact their daily life,” she said. “Participants are always looking for new ways of staying strong to improve mobility and overall health, and our language courses are a fun way to explore other regions and cultures.”
Other courses include history, such as an exploration of the music of Laurel Canyon, and Hollywood during World War II. Topics specific to seniors are also explored, like aging and the brain, and geriatric nutrition.
Around 500 seniors take courses through the Encore 55+ program every year.
