Overview:

RTA is hiring for bus operators, with a starting salary of $27.55 per hour, at a job fair at Tri-C this weekend.

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority is holding a job fair Oct. 18 at  Cuyahoga Community College to fill bus operator openings.

RTA’s hiring event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the Alex B. Johnson Building on Tri-C’s Metro Campus, 2900 Community College Ave., Cleveland. (You don’t have to be a Tri-C student in order to attend.) Applicants attending the event have the opportunity to be interviewed and receive a contingent job offer.

To get hired as an RTA bus operator, you’ll have to meet these requirements

The starting salary for bus operators after training is $27.55 per hour. Bus operators can make more than $35 an hour after the fourth year of full-time service. Trainees earn $17 to $20 an hour, depending on whether they have the type of Commercial Driver License (CDL) required. RTA offers CDL training.

These are among the requirements for bus operator applicants:

  • A high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Be at least 19 years old with a minimum of three years of driving experience and at least two years of customer service experience
  • A good driving record,  with no more than two points in the past three years
