Signal Clevelandโ€™s photowalks are conversations about the cityโ€™s neighborhoods, guided by the people who live here and reflected in the photos they capture.

What is a photowalk?

In the summer of 2025, I asked Cleveland residents to show me their neighborhoods. I brought cameras for us, and we stopped to take pictures as we walked and talked.

The things we saw and the conversations we had stuck with me. Photography is a powerful tool for reflection. Pictures can help us to pause and think about the things we might pass by everyday. Why is it the way it is?

Pictures donโ€™t have all the answers, but they can get us thinking. Thatโ€™s my goal here โ€” to explore how the people who live in Cleveland relate to the city’s different neighborhoods.

How do I sign up?

Fill out the form below to sign up for a photowalk. You can also reach out to me by email and phone: michael@signalcleveland.org / (216) 704-0295

Iโ€™ll do my best to get back to everyone, but depending on how many answers we get, I canโ€™t promise Iโ€™ll be able to set up a photowalk with everyone.

Your name:*
It could be anything: a community park or garden, a home with personal or historical significance, even potholes you want filled or trees you want trimmed. If you don’t have specific ideas, feel free to leave this one blank.

After you sign up, Iโ€™ll reach out to plan our photowalk.

We’ll pick a day, time and a place to meet up. For meeting places, it could be something like a rec center, a street corner or your home.

Iโ€™ll bring a camera to lend to you. Weโ€™ll walk and talk and take pictures of what we see. A photowalk can take anywhere from an hour or more depending on how much time you want to put into it.

After our walk, I’ll get our pictures developed and make some prints for you. Then, I’ll set up a time to meet and we’ll look at our pictures. You’ll get to keep the prints, of course.

I’ll publish our pictures and an essay based on our conversations in Signal Cleveland.
