Cleveland voters elected a new judge to oversee the city’s housing court, which handles evictions and building and housing code violation cases. Challenger Cheryl Wiltshire edged out Judge W. Moná Scott by 760 votes, according to the unofficial count.
Three new judges will join the Cleveland Municipal Court bench, where judges decide traffic, misdemeanor and civil cases. They also set bail in some felony cases.
Newcomer In Son J. Loving defeated Heather McCollough, a former prosecutor and assistant law director in East Cleveland. Magistrate Khalilah Lawson beat TJ Dow, another magistrate and former member of Cleveland City Council.
Emerging as the winner in the most crowded judicial race, Brett Earle Horton will serve the rest of the term vacated by Lauren C. Moore, who is now Cuyahoga County Common Pleas judge.
